We are proud to be over a 100-year-old family-run business, who has built a reputation for quality, price and excellent service. We’re passionate about Animal welfare, butchery and quality of the products we stock. Our excellent reputation as the go-to butchers in Chelmsford has provided us with a loyal and frequent customers base, who have been known to travel over 50 miles to visit our butchers and farm shop!

HISTORY

Charlie Humphreys established C Humphreys & Sons in the 1920s. At the time, Charlie was the man to go to if you needed a chicken or pig slaughtered. As Charlie’s reputation grew, so did his business’s need for larger premises and in 1938 Charlie purchased Blixes Farm in Ranks Green, Essex at a blind auction in a local pub.

Today the Blixes Farm and butchers sees the 4th generation of the Humphreys family in management, continuing to maintain the high standards of quality, and great prices which have built our reputation.

OUR TEAM

Our team of experienced and professionally trained butchers are happy to offer excellent advice when you are choosing, preparing and cooking our delicious cuts of meats.

Behind the scenes, all of our lamb, beef and pork are slaughtered, butchered and prepared on-site to guarantee consistent quality. We have well-trained staff producing tasty homemade burgers, sausages, fresh bread, pies, pastries and mouthwatering good cakes!

Home Reared Beef from our Farm

Our 600-acre farm is home to 500 cattle of mixed breeds including British blue and limousine cross. Because the whole journey of our beef, from cattle to cuts, is on-site, we can guarantee consistently high standards of animal welfare, quality and hygiene throughout its journey.
As well as farming livestock, we also grow wheat, maize, clover and barley on the farm, which we use to feed the animals.
